So a clam walks into a bar…

Ivar’s is a legendary seafood institution in Seattle.

And its larger-than-life founder, Ivar Hagland, created a kitschy, silly approach to serving up great tasting casual seafood at reasonable prices.

Ivar’s was in expansion mode and wanted to make a “splash” with their new store opening in the bedroom community of Issaquah, Washington. Prior to Ivar’s grand opening, quality quick-service seafood didn’t exist there – the only option was expensive sit-down seafood restaurants.

Bring in the spokes-clams

We needed to integrate Ivar’s into the fabric of this tight knit community. So we turned to Ivar’s well-known “spokes-clams,” fixtures in Ivar’s ever-present advertising in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.

We searched for the businesses in Issaquah that had the largest social followings, then created short videos with the Ivar’s clams interacting with those locations for mutual amplification.

In addition, Ivar’s media partner, Ad Mark, purchased local OOH, print, Pandora and other local media to tease Ivar’s was coming.
